Women in Business Series: Summer is Here! Let’s Get Financially Fit

Financial Fitness

We’ve all seen the sobering statistics:  Women earn roughly 84% of what men earn for the same job, according to Pew Research Center analysis. And, while they are generally better savers and more likely to participate in a 401(k) plan at work, their lower average income means they have less saved for their future than most men.

This topic was the inspiration for our June 26 Women in Business Series virtual event on financial fitness.

Investment strategists and wealth advisors Allison Dunlap and Jenna Mezza gave a riveting 60-minute presentation, covering insights on investing, saving, budget management and more. MCB’s Kathy Flaherty and Rui Sun were moderators for the event, which ended with so many questions from participants, that time ran out before all the questions could be addressed.

Allison and Jenna began by covering the basics of budgeting and saving,  sharing tips and identifying tools to help manage financial activity. They also covered home-buying considerations with an overview of the most important factors in the process. As statistics show that women tend to be more prone to hold on to their money and be very risk averse when it comes to investing, Allison and Jenna analyzed saving vs investing and provided real life scenarios to illustrate specific points.

Members of the audience expressed interest in a follow up Women in Business Series event to expand on the discussion. After the event, Allison said: “We really enjoyed and appreciated being a part of MCB’s Women in Business Series.”
