In 2022, Matthews, Carter & Boyce will mark its 75-year anniversary.

From the very beginning, the firm has embodied a purpose-driven culture, and has made supporting organizations that give back in the community a top priority.

“Since the day we opened our doors, we have felt a connection to the businesses and individuals that have built this community and to giving back to our neighbors. We started MCB Cares to ensure our team members have the opportunity to work together in support of causes that are meaningful to them,” said firm principal, Matthew Dwyer.

MCB Cares works year-round to partner with nonprofits that embody a variety of missions and goals.

“We know the needs of our community are great 365 days a year, so we work throughout the year to identify causes to support,” said MCB’s Jake Waltrich, who serves on the civic committee.

This fall, MCB Cares planned a number of team outings. In early October, firm members donated Halloween candy to Soldiers’ Angels for care packages to support our troops.

Later in October, team members partnered with Meals of Hope and Food for Others in a firm-wide effort to package more than 20,000 meals for delivery. Meals of Hope dropped off boxes of unpackaged food, and MCB mobilized a team of volunteers to package and prepare the food for donation. More than 40 volunteers attended in two different shifts to ensure social distancing precautions were addressed. The goal was to package 20,000 meals; MCB exceeded the number, preparing 21,000 total meals. Food for Others picked up the meals for distribution. Katie Blondin, a senior accountant, reached out to Food For Others to inquire about the organization’s greatest challenges, and learned that donations in October were of heightened importance for elementary school programs needing food before the wave of holiday donations materialized.

To keep the good going, as the holidays approach, MCB Cares is partnering with the Salvation Army, participating in the Angel Tree program and sponsoring two kettles in Fairfax and Reston. The Salvation Army has a 150+ year history of service around the world. MCB is proud to support this iconic organization in meeting the needs of families throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia.

An annual custom for MCB has been for team members to select charities that are near and dear to their hearts for year-end contributions. This year, five charities were selected by employees to each receive a monetary donation. In 2021, these organizations were: Food for Others; Friends of Guest House; International Cancer Expert Corp; Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. and Center for Public Integrity.

MCB is proud to continue a long-standing tradition of giving back in collaboration with many nonprofit organizations that are doing important work. To learn more about partnering with MCB Cares, contact us at info@mcb.cpa.
