MCB Cares this Season!

Dec 20, 2023 | Featured News and Events, MCB Happenings

On November 17, the team at Matthews, Carter & Boyce volunteered with Food for Others for our annual meal packing event, assembling 600 meals for deserving children and their families in our community. MCB packed non-perishable bundles of food to be delivered to school-age children that do not have adequate food at home. These food bundles are delivered to children on a regular basis at 45 schools throughout Fairfax County.  During the 2022-2023 school year, Food for Others distributed more than 3,700 of these packs every week throughout the year (Over 100,000 total meals!)

Every year, MCB also partners with the Salvation Army’s 2023 Angel Tree Program. The success of the Angel Tree Program depends on people agreeing to “adopt” an angel or angels, purchasing new items as Christmas gifts. For many of the families who turn to The Salvation Army for help, the toys and clothes they receive through the Angel Tree Program are the only gifts their children will have to open on Christmas morning. This year, MCB adopted 20 angels. Additionally, MCB will sponsor 15 Salvation Army kettle signs this holiday season; funds collected from the kettles provide emergency rental, utility, and food assistance, along with independent supportive housing for mothers and their children; adult addiction rehabilitation and treatment; disaster services, youth programs, music programs, and spiritual care for families in our community.

The team at MCB isn’t just busy giving back during the holidays; MCB Cares is an initiative that brings together our team members to actively participate in charitable efforts throughout the year. In 2022, MCB marked its 75-year anniversary. From the very beginning, the firm has embodied a purpose-driven culture, and has made supporting organizations that do good in the community a top priority.

“Since the day we opened our doors, we have felt a connection to the businesses and individuals that have built this community and to giving back to our neighbors. We started MCB Cares to ensure our team members have the opportunity to work together in support of causes that are meaningful to them,” said Managing Principal Jude Covas.

Added MCB’s Jake Waltrich, who serves on the civic committee, “We know the needs of our community are great 365 days a year, so we work throughout the year to identify causes to support with a variety of activities.”

Another tradition for MCB has been for team members to select charities that are important to them for year-end contributions. This year, 12 charities were selected by employees to each receive a monetary donation.

Added MCB’s Janna Rydell, “At MCB, giving back is part of our organizational culture. I am proud to help chair the civic committee and to work side by side with my team members year-round, partnering with organizations that are helping deserving families when and where the need is greatest.”
