Commonwealth of Virginia

The state of Virginia has once again been named the CNBC top state for business.  It is Virginia’s fifth win since the study began in 2007, leading all other states.  Virginia is also the only state to have achieved back to back wins. A healthy workforce and strong education system are among the categories that resulted in the highest marks, in addition to access to capital and “business friendliness.”  Virginia boasts one of the best-educated workforces in the country, with a large concentration of workers in science, technology, engineering and math.

According to CNBC, “Virginia pulls off the repeat performance despite a vastly altered competitive landscape, a testament to the resilience of the state’s business climate.”

“At MCB, we are proud to have served businesses in Virginia for almost 75 years,” said Managing Principal Jude Covas.  “When we first opened our doors in Northern Virginia in 1947, we knew this was a special community of hard-working and forward-thinking leaders in industry. We are proud to still be working with some of the same businesses, over several generations, as this community has grown and flourished.”

In an additional nod to the Washington metropolitan area, the state of Maryland finished as the most improved state on the CNBC list.
