Matthews, Carter & Boyce is pleased to announce our firm’s continued recognition in Accounting Today’s “Regional Leaders”. 2026 is the 6th consecutive year MCB has been named to the Regional Leaders, which is part of Accounting Today’s selection of the Top 100 Accounting Firms across the country. MCB was selected for the Capital Region.
Firms have traditionally been recognized by Accounting Today for innovative growth strategies and leading-edge service offerings. For Regional Leaders, the publication ranks the top firms by revenue in specific regions of the country. In addition to benchmarking data around revenues, staffing, fee splits and more, the report also includes insights of senior executives at the firms, sharing their growth strategies, major concerns, and the biggest opportunities they see ahead.
“There are dozens of paths to growth, and the leading firms in the accounting profession are taking all of them,” according to Accounting Today Editor in Chief Daniel Hood. This year’s publication featured thoughts from Regional Leaders in a variety of areas, including approaches to ensure sustainable growth. In addition to advances in technology, industry executives spoke to adding depth to specializations as an important strategic consideration. 2026 was the year of the client, and many of the recognized firms spoke to their client-centric growth strategies, identifying the right clients and curating the right services for them.
MCB Principal Kathleen Flaherty shared her insights with the Accounting Today editorial team.
“Throughout 2025, we continued to strengthen our partnerships with clients, ensuring hands-on connections and accessibility to provide timely information on issues impacting their businesses and daily lives. We also advanced our technology and offerings for increased security of client financial information. Our client communications efforts expanded across multiple channels, including blogs, emails, and information alerts, providing up-to-the-minute updates on evolving rules and regulatory programs. Our annual Economic Outlook event with a renowned economist and our Women in Business Series were hosted virtually, increasing attendance by over 20%. Additionally, we broadened our reach by sharing expert insights in regional and national business trade publications.”
AI adoption was also a significant priority in 2025 for MCB, as Flaherty explained in this recap of the firm’s AI strategy: “Expand our AI adoption by utilizing more tools to improve efficiency. This will automate more mechanical, recurring tasks and free up our staff’s time for more high-value communication and touch points with clients.”
She added, “With the advent and now expansion of AI, the human connection is the differentiator for small businesses. We intend to employ AI for efficiency while empowering our people to provide the highest level of client service and support as they navigate tax and financial reporting requirements.”
With respect to the most important priorities for MCB, Flaherty listed recruiting and retaining talent; keeping staff engaged and connected to leadership and to each other; and responding to the needs of clients.
Flaherty stressed that client service and the client experience has always been at the forefront of MCB’s mission. “As we approach 80 years, MCB remains dedicated to personalized service, innovation, and the enduring values that have defined us for decades.”
She added, “Our culture, care for our clients, and commitment to excellence continue to guide everything we do.”
