ANNAPOLIS, Md. (May 15, 2025) — The Maryland Office of the Comptroller is providing tax relief to businesses affected by the flash flooding event that happened on May 13, 2025, in Allegany County. The agency will work with affected businesses individually to waive penalties and interest on all business tax payments with due dates between May 10, 2025, and June 30, 2025. For the waiver to be applied, all business returns must be filed and payments received by July 20, 2025.

“We know that unexpected events like this are devastating and can cause severe financial hardship for individuals, businesses, and communities,” said Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman. “Our hope is that our actions will give business owners one fewer thing to worry about as they tend to their personal and their business needs and figure out the next steps for recovery.” The Office of the Comptroller offers several options for businesses to reach our office for assistance. Business owners can:

1. Visit the Cumberland Branch Office at 3 Pershing Street, Suite 101, Cumberland, MD 21502. There, a member of the Taxpayer Services team will provide assistance in person. In-person visits can be scheduled here.
2. Call the Taxpayer Services Division at 1-800-638-2937. Press 1 to be connected with an agent for assistance.
3. Schedule a Virtual Appointment with the Taxpayer Services team.
4. Register with the MyCOMConnect Portal and submit a request for assistance. A member of the Taxpayer Services team will follow up with businesses using their preferred method of communication.
