April 18, 2016 is the individual income tax due date for the 2015 tax year. The deadline was pushed to April 18th due to the observance of Emancipation Day, a national holiday (Read about other tax return due date changes). Individuals need to file their 2015 income tax return (Form 1040, Form 1040A, or 1040EZ) and pay any due tax by this date.
Taxpayers can also file an automatic 6-month extension online using Form 4868. This will extend the filing deadline to October 17, 2016, but remember that any tax liability you may owe will still be due on the April 18, 2016 deadline.
